Everyday Salad Dressing Recipe

Friends, do you have a go-to homemade salad dressing recipe that you love?

If not, bookmark mine! ♡

I’ve been in the habit of making my own salad dressings for years — partly because I prefer to avoid the additives found in many store-bought salad dressings, but mostly because delicious salad dressing is super quick and easy to make from scratch, and it always tastes extra fresh and flavorful!

We fondly call this particular recipe my “everyday” salad dressing in our house, because we quite literally make some version of it nearly every day of the week.  (Yes, we eat a lot of salads in our casa.)  It’s a basic recipe made simply with olive oil, lemon juice (or vinegar), garlic, Dijon, salt and pepper that can be whipped up in just 5 minutes.  And I’m telling you — this salad dressing somehow magically works with just about any type of salad you might be craving!

It’s also an incredibly versatile base recipe that can be easily tweaked and customized, if you would like to play around with using different types of vinegar, mustards, added herbs, or added sweeteners too.  Leftovers also keep well in the fridge, if you would like to make a larger batch to stretch out over the course of a week.  (Which I find to be excellent motivation to eat more salad — it’s always easier to toss one together when you have some delicious dressing ready to go!)  And this salad dressing recipe just so happens to be naturally gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan too.

Anyway, I first introduced this dressing a few years ago when I shared our favorite everyday side salad recipe, and many of you have shared since that it has become a regular staple in your homes as well.  So for anyone who may have missed that other post or would just like a stellar salad dressing recipe to bookmark, I promise this one won’t let you down.  Let’s make a quick batch!

Caesar Dressing

Raise your hand if you love Caesar salads as much as I do! ♡♡♡

Well for all of you Caesar-obsessed kindred spirits out there, get ready to bookmark today’s recipe.  Because the classic Caesar dressing recipe that I have to share with you today is my hands-down fave.

I tend to get on a bit of a soapbox when it comes to Caesar salad, because far too many of the Caesar dressings I have tried over the years taste like creamy, watered-down, halfhearted versions of the real deal — which simply will not do!  A really great Caesar should be unapologetically packed with bold umami flavors.  We’re talking whole anchovies (yes, they are the essential starring ingredient in modern Caesar dressing and cannot be missed), raw egg yolks (also traditional, but I’ve included alternatives below if needed), spicy raw garlic, tangy Dijon, salty Parmesan, freshly-squeezed lemon juice, a generous seasoning of sea salt and black pepper, and of course, lots of good-quality olive oil.

This, my friends, is the dream team of ingredients when it comes to making a great modern Caesar dressing.  And when blended together into a creamy emulsion and then tossed with crisp Romaine lettuce, crunchy sourdough croutons, an extra sprinkle of Parm and black pepper — well, if you ask me, salad doesn’t just get any better than this.

The good news for all of us is that this homemade Caesar dressing recipe is easy to whip up in just a few minutes.  So grab those anchovies (yes! you can do it!), and let’s make a batch together. ♡

Sesame Chicken Salad Recipe with Almonds, Avocado and Cilantro

Meet the crispy, crunchy, fresh and flavorful sesame chicken salad that I have made a million times over the years.  And will surely continue to make a million more. ♡

What can I say — I just love a good green salad with sesame vinaigrette!

And while I’ve mixed and matched many different ingredients to go with it over the years, I have to say that this is the classic combo that just works for me.  We’re talkin’ lots of crisp salad greens (either a basic cabbage coleslaw or some crisp shredded Romaine), whatever shredded or diced chicken you have on hand (I most often shred a rotisserie or make some baked chicken breasts), lots of creamy diced avocado, crunchy shredded carrots, a generous helping of fresh cilantro and green onions, toasty sliced almonds, and my go-to simple sesame vinaigrette.

All together, these simple ingredients combine to create a light, bright, and perfectly-balanced green salad that I always find to be so satisfying.  And it always, always hits the spot.

Who’s ready for some salad?!
