How is it the end of February?!

We had a nice little week.

The kids had monday off from school.

Sourdough pizza dough!!

It was cold this week but still not February cold.

Park fun.

Little baby boy.

They are the sweetest.

She is just the best with him.

Sourdough focaccia, sliced super thin for sandwiches.

Testing sourdough waffles too!

This long little bean.

Thursday night was amazing…

Because I went to see Boyz II Men! I mean, my inner 13 year old was DYING. They were so good.

He said “mama take a picture!”

Now “do a funny face!”

Pretty sure Emilia needs to be my stylist.

We put her hair up in flexirod curlers!

This morning it came out like this.

It was another hockey weekend!

Sneaky babies.

Must find all ways to entertain.

How cute is he on the ice!

My little tween.

Made a big pile of sourdough waffles to freeze.

And tried to make sourdough chocolate chip cookie bars but, eh. You win some, you lose some.

A peek at everything I loved in February 2024!

FOOD

Purely Elizabeth Chocolate Chip Cookie Granola. This may be the best store-bought granola I have ever had. It’s SO good. My kids love it too.

Salt & vinegar pistachios. These are irresistible – the best salty snack. If you love salt and vinegar chips, these are incredible.

Favorite Day bunny bait. A snacky staple this time of year – it’s a great little weekend treat. This goes for all easter candy, anything in an egg shape is superior! Like dove peanut butter eggs, peanut butter m&ms, lindt eggs and more.

HOME

Sourhouse Goldie. This has been a HUGE game changer for my sourdough starter!! I keep my starter in this and it rises and falls like clockwork. It keeps the temperature stay consistent and high enough – at a temp that I don’t even reach in our house.

Raisenne Proofing Mat. On that same note – this has also been a big help for my actual dough. I’ve been using it for all sorts of dough (I like our house to stay cold) and it helps it to rise quickly and efficiently.

iHome multiport charger. I’ve mentioned these before but they are a lifesaver in both our house and my car. We have so many things that have to be charged and this streamlines them a bit!

Matte hot pink wrapping paper. This paper is fabulously neon and I think it’s going to be my signature wrapping! I adore it.

Acrylic necklace hanger. I bought these for my delicate necklaces and they come with sticky backs – they are so pretty! And you can really stick them almost everywhere. Super useful!

BEAUTY

Unconquered perfume. I discovered this through scentbird and it’s incredible. Warm, some musk, a little coconut, but not summery. New favorite perfume!

Summer Fridays lip oil. The pink shade is this is so pretty – it’s so light but is flattering with just a little color. This is so, so moisturizing, it’s wonderful.

Trader Joe’s Brazil Nut body oil. I use this daily after my shower, it smells exactly like sol de janiero. I love that it has a pump and I mix it with body cream.

FASHION

Target sandwash sweatshirt. This is an exact (maybe even better?!) dupe for the lululemon softstreme sweatshirt at a fraction of the cost! It’s incredible. I have black, green and purple and I love them so much.

Gap vintage neon pink sweatshirt. Hello, all I’m going to tell you about today? Sweatshirts! This neon pink sweatshirt is another huge fave this month. It’s perfect. And you’ll notice a theme. I’m obsessed with red and pink.

Beyond yoga spacedye leggings. Like these red and pink leggings! Red + pink is my favorite combo to wear – it is so fun, happy and bright!

MZ Wallace box tote. And this too. I got it at christmas, it’s a big of the splurge but fits so much. And the perfect color combo! I live for a crossbody.

MEDIA

The Women. Best book I read in February, period. Heart wrenching in the best way!

Breakfast in a Nancy Meyer’s kitchen. This is the best playlist ever.

Starstruck on HBO. This is SUCH a fun and funny show. I love it! And there are enough seasons to get a good binge in.

KIDS

Tulip puff paint. Makes me feel like it’s 1995 again. The kids LOVE using this. Like absolutely love it.

abercrombie kids ypb hoodie & pants. Emilia finally fits into some of the abercrombie kids stuff and these sets are SO cute. They are exactly like the spanx air essentials material – so silky, soft and lays so nicely. Looks super high end! Also, protip: never buy abercrombie at full price. There are constant sales for 30-40% off (kinda like jcrew does) or even more.

Melissa and Doug take along train set. Jordan got this for Christmas and it’s the best toy ever. He loves trains and this is so easy to pack up and move around the house – but also take with us. It’s definitely going to be a travel essential for us!

8. On that same note I’ve becoming fully obsessed with lighting and how to perfectly light a room for ideal ambiance. Every room! Everyone in this house is quite annoyed with me.

Just the best.

MVP puck for the game!

Here at home we got snow!

Lots of big bed cuddles with me!!

Emilia started basketball.

She is the happiest girl.

Baby friends!

One of my favorite meals ever – the green lentil soup from 101 cookbooks. Don’t let the appearance sway you!

The boys took a freezing hiatus to niagara falls during game breaks.

Look at that crazy ice!

Annnnd that was the weekend.

Emilia just helped me stir some dough for sourdough focaccia!

What a week!!

We had such a beautiful weather week! It was so warm(ish) and sunny.

We eat a lot of oranges. Ha.

Warm enough for park snacks!

This babyyyyyy!

Oh my gosh. Look at this sourdough focaccia dough!

Okay, a ton of you asked about sourdough in my last post. This is what I’ve done this time around to be very successful! I made a new starter. Into a jar, I combined 15g organic rye flour, 45 grams organic bread flour and 60 grams room temp water. I mixed it together and then for the first week, I fed the started once a day. Starting the second week, I fed the starter every 12 hours, so twice a day. I do this around 7am and 7pm!

This has made my starter super strong. I didn’t try to bake with it at all the first few weeks. I probably gave it four or five weeks before trying to bake.

Also, I got this home for my starter, which has been a game charger, because I like to keep our house cold. I also use these proofing mats, which have been another game changer for the same reason.

Now, I bake stuff almost every day. I use this recipe for sandwich bread. I’ve tried a few others and I love this one the most.

I use this recipe for pizza dough. It’s the best I’ve ever found. I also use her recipe for english muffins! I’ve been making them once a week.

I still feed the starter twice a day, with 15g rye and 45g organic bread flour. When I make a leaven, I use all organic bread flour, as that is what I bake with too.

Let me know if this helps!!

My little diggers!

Tuesday nights we have hockey and skating late, Jordy runs wild.

Neon girl.

This little house was in our basement for years! Since Max was 3. The kids love it.

This weekend, Max had his last basketball game! After, we went to an end of the season party while Eddie took Emilia and Jordan to…

Monster jam!!!

Loved it!

Jordan especially loved it, this was his first time.

Made a lot of fruit plates this weekend for my valentines.

Went to a galentines party saturday night and made these cute little heart caprese skewers!

This morning, Max had a hockey game. He had a HAT TRICK!!! Woohoo!!!

Emilia and I made a candy salad for super bowl party/valentines day. She ADORES gummy candy.

Fun and cute!

I wish I was celebrating valentine’s day all year.

And now, go Taylor!

3. We’ve discovered all sorts of wacky things we packed since moving. But this weekend took the cake. Eddie found one of the kids water bottles that was somehow stuck in the garage. Went to dump it out… and it was MILK. Oh my gosh. We both died.

4. The good news is that after 3.5 months I finally found my new dishes that I had ordered before we moved! The story is embarrassing, but I found them.

5. So obsessed with valentine’s day that I had to share all my favorite things.

6. TV Things!! I started watching Starstruck on the recommendation of a few of you. It’s so good!!

7. All the thoughts on bookshelf wealth.

8. The Grammy’s was so incredibly good. I rarely fully watch award shows anymore but I was so hooked – Joni Mitchell, Tracy Chapman! I’ve been singing Both Sides Now and Fast Car for 36 hours straight.

9. Oh but I definitely heard someone say on the red carpet that Olivia Rodrigo was wearing “vintage Versace from 1995.” 1995? Vintage? HELP.

10. Best news ever: Ina’s memoir. Cannot even wait.

I kicked 2024 off with a lot of good books! I’m in a good reading zone at the moment and have some that I loved this month. What are you reading?1

You can find my reading lists here and previous what I read posts here.

And you can follow me on goodreads here.

I do have a book of the month membership – I love it so much. I get so many of my new releases and debut author books there. You can sign up for one here.

All of these books are linked through bookshop (if available!) and I highly suggest shopping through there because it will support your local indie bookstore. You can choose the local bookstore to support! I support Penguin Books when I buy which is my fave here in Pittsburgh.

WHAT I READ IN JANUARY 2024

Mercury – 5 stars

I love this book so much – it surprised me. It is a story about family, mostly about family drama. It follows a girl who moves to a new town with her single mom and becomes involved with a family that has three sons. This is not a happy story, but it is a good story. The writing is incredible and it kept me interested – I couldn’t wait to find out what would happen. It’s also sort of a murder mystery so I guess it could be considered a thriller. And! It’s set in western PA in the 90s, so I was familiar with what the author was talking about.

First Lie Wins – 4.75 stars

Also loved this one! This is a true thriller. The story follows a girl who is sort of a life long con artist to the point where she has made it her job. She always has an alias with a full background story. Her boyfriend is the target she is working on, but someone shows up with her REAL name and her real life story. It’s crazy! There were a few twists and turns and while I did see the big twist somewhat coming, it was still good.

The Bright Spot – 4 stars

This one was so cute! I love every book by Jill Shalvis. This was adorable – the story follows a girl who runs a farm, the owner dies and leaves her 50% of the farm – and someone else, a very cute someone else, the other 50%. If you are an animal lover, you will love this. Multiple times I laughed out loud and the farm animals had a ton of personality in this – the writing was great. It’s a super feel good story.

He’s Not My Type – 3 stars

I have to be in a certain moon to read Meghan Quinn – they are definitely a level of spice that may not be everyone’s cup of tea. I like reading them after a thriller or something deeper! This story is a hockey romance, which I love since we are huge hockey fans. The story follows a marketing exec for a hockey team who ends up living with one of the players after she loses her apartment in a breakup. Steamy, cute and I liked it.

A Not So Meet Cute – 3.5 stars

Same as the above, but I did like this one a little more. It was very funny and the banter is great. Equally as steamy and spicy, but still readable. This story follows a girl who gets fired from her job by her lifelong frenemy. She goes in search of a rich boyfriend and runs into someone who needs a fake fiance for a business deal. Sounds cheesy, but it’s very cute. I love a fake dating trope!

Frigid – 2 stars

I was not really a fan of this one – should’ve know by the cover alone, lol. It felt a little young adult-ish to me, so many of the scenes are cringy and I didn’t love the language. This story follows a girl who has been in love with her best friend forever. He’s a total player but they end up stranded in a cabin in a snowstorm. But it’s probably just me!! I know that people really love this. It is friends to lovers trope which is always a good one.

One In A Millennial

I’ve listened to Kate Kennedy’s podcast for years and she has an uncanny ability to verbalize nearly everything I loved/feel about growing up as a kid in the 90s. Think all the good nostalgia – this is the book, but in a fabulous way that also talks about how it has affected us. It’s really great! I listened to it because she narrates it. Her writing style is just like her podcasts so I highly suggest listening, that way you get the full effect!

(This is not sponsored but there are a few bookshop and/or affiliate links above! Thank you for reading!)
