We’re teaming up with our friends at Maker’s Mark® to celebrate all the family dishes that make our tables complete with a special edition of our recipe contests—and a sweet grand-prize for the winner.

Recipe contests have always been at the heart of Food52: We got started as a company back in 2009 based on the idea of a crowd-sourced cookbook featuring winning recipes from our community of home cooks. Over the years, recipe contests have remained an important part of our story—and an outlet for discovering a new favorite dish, like our most recent contest-winner, Greek Mahogany Potatoes.

We asked for our community’s best winter potato recipe, and you all delivered. From creamy and comforting gratins to elegant potato-stuffed pastries (shout out to our runner-up, Bevi's Everything Baked Potato Puff Pastries), choosing just one was not an easy task. After multiple rounds of recipe testing, narrowing down the finalists, and asking our community to vote, we finally have a winner: ‘World Famous' Mahogany Potatoes by Lisanne Weinberg, known on our site as creamtea.

To celebrate the occasion, we chatted with the recipe developer about this winning potato dish—and why it has resonated with so many home cooks over the years.

Our latest contest theme, Your Best Summer Salad, challenged our talented and creative community to create a salad using the plethora of fresh and delicious produce available in the summer. We can always count on our community to rally together, and the entries did not disappoint.

We tested and tasted our way through an impressive array of salads, and although it was difficult, we were able to narrow it down to two: QueenSashy's Late Summer Tomato Corn Verrines , a sweet salad with a spicy kick, playfully served in a jar showcases the best of summer produce, and Arisa Slutsky's Tomato Confit and Kimchi Panzanella, a creative take on an Italian classic, loaded with flavor from the pairing of roasted and fresh tomatoes, kimchi, and herbs.

Nothing says "summer" like a perfect salad showcasing the peak of fresh produce. Whether plucked from your garden or picked up from a local farmer's market or grocery store, this is the time to enjoy the fleeting wonder of these ingredients in their prime. We asked for our Community to share their best summer salad recipes, hoping for some new go-tos to add to our repertoire. And our Community delivered!

Arisa Slutsky's Tomato Confit and Kimchi Panzanella makes masterful use of summer's superstar, the tomato. This recipe pairs flavor-packed, roasted, garlicky tomatoes with bright, sweet, fresh tomatoes all tied together with pungent, spicy kimchi, crusty bread and fresh basil. The result is a hearty salad, both deep and fresh, that can be enjoyed on its own or paired with grilled steak or chicken for a filling meal.

Absolutely crushing the competition at the local fair is nothing new for Linda Skeens. This year, the Virginian great-grandmother went viral after winning more than 25 of the 80 contests at the Virginia-Kentucky District Fair—and sweeping the medals in the Cake, Pie, Cookie, Sweet Bread, Savory Bread, Brownie, and Candy categories. She won for cooking, canning, and baking, and she even placed in the embroidery and wall-decor categories, per Today. But apparently she’s dominated the competition before, as TikTok and radio personality Mason Moussette learned after she tracked down the mystery champion for an interview.

“I usually win,” Skeens said. She’s a regular at the fair and often triumphs in pretty similar ways to this year. What made this year different, according to the humble winner who has no social media of her own (or even a cell phone or email address, her granddaughter told the Washington Post), was that the fair posted about it on Facebook.

We tested and tasted our way through a global array of sandwiches and we were able to narrow it down to two: an elegant Shrimp Francese Sandwich featuring a delicious and spicy tomato and hot cherry pepper bruschetta topping with gooey cheese from Daddy_Chef_DoDoDoDoDoDo's and a delightfully layered, flavor-packed Spicy Salmon "Bento" Bagel Sandwich with Cucumber Salad, a playful take on the very popular bento box from Joni Goldbach.
