Rose Sangria

Summer in France means a lot of things in France. En masse vacations, a blissfully empty Paris, price increases (which happen during August, when everyone is out of town – of course), and vide-greniers and brocantes, known elsewhere as flea markets, where people sell all kinds of things. If you’re lucky enough to take a trip to the countryside, the brocantes are amazing. But some…

And when your other half has a station wagon, well, the possibilities are endless. (And sometimes voluminous!)

I don’t know about you, but I can’t think of a better way to relax in the warm weather, than with a refreshing Spritz. I was introduced to the Spritz when I went to coffee school in 2007, in Trieste, Italy. I drank at least six cups of espresso every day – how could I not? – surprising even the Italian teachers. And by the end of the day, I needed to wind down.

So after class, I’d go to a local caffè in the early evening where I noticed everyone drinking colorful drinks in large, wide goblets filled with handfuls of ice. Since icy beverages are often hard to come by in some countries in Europe, it was surprising to see people drinking cold drinks loaded up with ice. And I wanted one.

If you’re totally over apple cider, this spiced orange spritzer is your gal!!

The spiced orange spritzer is a fancier mimosa and similar to an aperol spritz! A fresh spiced orange juice based mixed with prosecco and seltzer. So good!

It’s a cross between a better mimosa and an aperol spritz (uh, without the aperol) and tasts absolutely incredibly – and just like this season smells.

In a good way.

You know?

orange juice and allspice

To be honest, I was desperate for a cocktail that didn’t include cranberry, pomegranate or cider! I mean, sure, don’t worry, I have a cranberry one coming next week. Of course. Eyeroll.

For now though?

We are going full blown orange spice.

This orange spice combo is one we have been obsessed with this month. I have another quick appetizer coming for you next week that is orange spiced flavored, and while I always say that I’m not the hugest fan of orange, this is the business.

I swear, it’s the allspice and nutmeg that make it different. Just different enough.

The spiced orange spritzer is a fancier mimosa and similar to an aperol spritz! A fresh spiced orange juice based mixed with prosecco and seltzer. So good!

The spritzer starts with a fresh orange juice base. Use that smeg juicer because it’s the best! You whisk together fresh juice, fresh orange zest, a drop of honey, allspice and nutmeg. Oh my word, this mixture is so incredible!

A word on the zest: if you really dislike pulp in orange juice, you may want to skip the zest. BUT! It adds such a sweet little zing to the drink. It adds so much orange flavor. If you don’t mind a few sips of zest, leave it in. It’s super good!

This spiced orange juice gets poured over iced, then topped with prosecco. I prefer prosecco over anything else because it tends to be drier. And it just… tastes good. Obviously.

Then! That gets topped with orange seltzer. Or plain seltzer, whichever you have on hand. The orange adds some extra oomph.

I love this drink because it doesn’t taste as breakfast-like as a mimosa. It has a touch more flavor and tastes slightly more sophisticated, which I think makes it perfect for dinner! Or pre-dinner cocktails.

It goes fantastically well with all the Thanksgiving flavors, like cranberry and pomegranate and sage and turkey and stuffing.

Oh that same note, it wouldn’t be entirely inappropriate to serve it at breakfast. Or brunch.

So let’s do that!

Today we’re making chilled apple cider punch that tastes like fall in a glass!

This apple cider punch recipe has tons of fall flavor! Apple cider, aperol, pomegranate soda and prosecco come together to create a bubbly treat!

Okay and yes, let’s address the elephant in the room: I have an apple cider addiction. Because, how can you not?

Guys, I think I have eight apple cider cocktails for you this season. Maybe give or take one. I LOVE apple cider so much (p.s. yes homemade is coming soon), I adore that it can be hot or cold, and it just makes the best fall cocktails.

This apple cider punch recipe has tons of fall flavor! Apple cider, aperol, pomegranate soda and prosecco come together to create a bubbly treat!

Speaking of, that’s one of the reasons I wanted to bring Thursday cocktails back for the fall. Because here’s the thing: in the summer, I drink mostly chilled rosé or white wine. Maybe some margaritas. Maybe (a gallon of) an aperol spritz.

In the fall though? I want all the sangrias, punches, those warm-you-to-the-core autumn flavors that make me so happy.

Is that how your cocktail hours are going?

Please tell me yes.

This apple cider punch recipe has tons of fall flavor! Apple cider, aperol, pomegranate soda and prosecco come together to create a bubbly treat!

See, it’s rare that I will run out and buy a bunch of new bottles for punch or cocktails unless it’s a REALLY good, almost classic, relied on recipe that everyone loves. Like my white apple cider sangria. I want to use the ingredients over and over again!

This apple cider punch recipe has tons of fall flavor! Apple cider, aperol, pomegranate soda and prosecco come together to create a bubbly treat!

This is one of those. With some tart pomegranate flavor, a whole cup of aperol (it works incredibly well in fall drinks!) and bubbly, dry prosecco.

THIS IS A KEEPER.

This apple cider punch recipe has tons of fall flavor! Apple cider, aperol, pomegranate soda and prosecco come together to create a bubbly treat!

In addition to being all around obsessed with the flavor of this punch, you know, with the whole “it’s almost fall but it’s 90 degrees so let’s make a fun drink!” thing, it’s one that you can totally make ahead of time.

If you’re going to a tailgate party or want to transport this somewhere, combine everything and take it with you. It’s perfect! The bubbles may die down a bit, but it still tastes incredible.

Then, if you find yourself with leftover apple cider, pour it in some popsicle molds! Freeze ’em and serve with the punch. Wisdom, I tell you.

Meet my new favorite thing: an apple cider spritz!

This apple cider spritz is an autumnal take on the classic aperol spritz. Apple cider, prosecco and aperol come together in this refreshing cocktail!

Cocktail Thursdays are BACK for the fall and I couldn’t be more excited!

I mentioned it in my last summer fridays post of the year, but this season gets me so pumped for fun drinks that I couldn’t pass up any more weeks of not sharing these with you. It was like I was hoarding secrets all to myself. Secrets of tequila and rosé and whiskey and champagne.

Not all together in one glass, don’t worry.

This apple cider spritz is an autumnal take on the classic aperol spritz. Apple cider, prosecco and aperol come together in this refreshing cocktail!

Let’s start with this cider prosecco spritz. Ummm it’s been no secret that for the last three or four years I’ve been aperol spritz obsessed. Yes, the classic aperol spritz – I don’t want any other variations in the summer!

The rest of the year though? That’s another story.

Last December, I shared this winter version that I love so much. And in the howsweeteats holiday guide, there is an aperol punch!

So it was high time for a slightly autumnal spritz. Or, for me to… um… trash up a spritz with apple cider. Yes that sounds about right.

If you love apple cider like I do AND you love prosecco like I do, well then, you’re going to be in heaven. The slight orange flavor of the aperol really complements the apple and it’s super refreshing while also being… warm?

You know. Me and all my great descriptions.

I LOVE this drink because it helps transition these late summer weeks into early fall. It’s bubbly and icy but has a little warmth from the cider and the cinnamon. Not to mention the flavor – hello!

It’s also embarrassingly easy. Throw everything together over ice and you’re golden. Sip it on the patio as the sun goes down (earlier and earlier!) and the air gets a little cooler.

Sounds dreamy, tastes even dreamier!
