If you love bread and rolls and biscuits as much as I do, you’re in for a treat today.

These garlic knots are SO delicious. They’re also pretty easy to make, so they’re actually something you can throw together on a weeknight.

The dough only needs to rest/rise for 40 minutes total; with shaping and baking time, they’ll take you just over an hour from start to finish, with most of that being hands-off time.

Which means you can get the rest of your dinner ready while these little beauties are rising and baking. Maybe a big pot of soup or pasta? There are no wrong answers when garlic knots are involved.

Fancy-sounding dishes that are secretly super easy to make are totally my jam.

Whipped cherry butter looks so beautiful on your table but comes together in just minutes. Cranberry brie bites always impress guests but are made with just 3 ingredients. And this apple compote sounds fancy but takes almost no effort to make.

Why is holiday brunch so fantastic?!

overnight french onion croissant bake

This overnight french onion croissant bake is the epitome of holiday breakfast. It’s prepared ahead of time, completely indulgent, tastes wonderful, special, fancy and also feeds a crowd.

It checks all the boxes for a great holiday meal!

caramelized onions

A few years ago I fell in love with this overnight croissant breakfast bake. We love it SO MUCH. I only make it once a year – sometimes twice. It is a very filling and decadent breakfast, and I have never made something that absolutely everyone loves so much.

We all look forward to this on holiday mornings. It’s unbelievably good.

This year, I decided to “french onion” the breakfast casserole! Oh yes, I remove some of the spinach and instead, add a ton of caramelized onions. It tastes just as good as it sounds!

caramelized onions

Here’s how I make it!

I start with the caramelized onions. This recipe is a little high maintenance because you have to caramelize the onions, then let this sit overnight. But I promise it is 100% worth it.

I caramelize three or four large sweet onions. This will take around 60 to 90 minutes, maybe even longer. I like to start mine off a little higher, then turn them down after 20 minutes or so. I find that this really speeds up the process.

One reason I love this so much is because it’s made with croissants. I have always been a huge croissant lover! The base of this starts with croissants that are toasted until the broiler until they get wonderful, crisp and caramely bits.

The custard is made with eggs, cream and freshly grated gruyere cheese. It melts like HEAVEN.

Everything is tossed together: the toasted croissants, eggs, cheese and caramelized onions. Then it chills in the fridge overnight! This is key. You can’t skip this part!

In the morning, remove it from the fridge and bake it up. It’s cheesy, melty, crisp, crunchy, savory, sweet and everything you want.

This gets so golden in the oven. The croissant pieces soak up all the egg and the mixture has the most perfect souffle-like texture.

I mean, just look at this!

This is a fabulous holiday brunch idea – or even one to make on christmas night after a day of lounging around. It’s incredibly satisfying.

And it’s feeds tons of people! (more…)

There’s a local restaurant here in Ohio that serves whipped cherry butter with their bread and my brother absolutely loves it!

This Thanksgiving, I had extra maraschino cherries from making my ambrosia salad and decided to whip up some cherry butter as a surprise for him.

It turned out perfect and he said it was his favorite thing about Thanksgiving dinner, which only pissed me off a little because it took a whopping 5 minutes to make and I had prepped and cooked everything else for daaaaaays. But I guess that’s a brother for ya!

If you’re looking for a quick and easy addition to your holiday dinner rolls or breakfast spread, this whipped cherry butter is definitely it.

It’s a mocktail!

This cherry lime ginger beer drink is so delicious and refreshing, super pretty and festive for the holiday season and a hit with both kids and adults. It’s made with maraschino cherry juice, freshly squeezed lime juice, ginger beer (or ginger ale!) and a splash of seltzer.

Add in a sprig of fresh mint and a spoonful of cherries and it’s the cutest drink on the block.

Plus it just tastes so darn good.

This can be the showstopping drink at your christmas or new year’s dinner this year. It’s incredibly wonderful tasting on its own, but you can also add a splash of vodka if you wish. Make it a little boozy!

You can also use ginger beer OR ginger ale here. I like to use ginger beer. It’s a little spicy, tangy and has that super gingery bite to it. However, my kids don’t love ginger beer. They prefer the more mellow sweet flavor of ginger ale. It works with both options, so it’s up to you!

When it comes to cherries, I love to use these merry maraschino cherries. I’ve been buying these (and their bada bing cherries!) for years at my local grocery store. Or just use the other traditional maraschino cherries you can find in your grocery store. Just be sure you have enough juice.  (more…)

Do you ever eat something at a party and know that you immediately need to make it at home?

That’s what happened with this Snickers dip. I tried some at a Halloween party back in October and knew I had to come up with my own recipe for it right away.

If you’re looking for a super easy dessert to take to your office party or serve for game day, this is the one. It comes together in about 10 minutes and is amazing when served with salty pretzels or tart apple slices.

It’s side dish city over here!

I’m all about finding the best sides to go with holiday meals, so today I’m coming at you with the creamiest, most delicious cauliflower gratin.

smoked gruyere cauliflower gratin

This cauliflower gratin is made with smoked gruyere cheese, some parmesan, a little nutmeg and topped with dijon mustardy croutons. Baked until golden and crunchy on top, it’s almost like cauliflower in mac and cheese sauce.

Dreamy!!

smoked gruyere cauliflower gratin

This cauliflower gratin is always the star of the show. It’s unbelievably delicious. It’s ridiculously cheesy. And the breadcrumbs on top!!

OH my word.

I use the same breadcrumbs that I do in my cauliflower white bean soup. Just toasty sourdough crumbs mixed with melted butter and dijon mustard. They are buttery and tangy from the mustard. They are the perfect crunchy topping and when you get a bite of the cauliflower with the breadcrumb bits, it’s heaven.

smoked gruyere cauliflower gratin

This is how I make it!

First, the cauliflower has to soften a bit. I like to do this in the microwave because it’s so easy. I cut the head of cauliflower into florets and place them in a bowl. Then, I add a splash of water, cover the bowl and microwave for a few minutes to steam the cauliflower.

The is key! This is the only way that your cauliflower will be tender enough. Otherwise, it will not cook and be tender if it’s simply roasted with the sauce. Make sure to steam it first.

Next comes the smoky gruyere sauce. My oh my how I love smoked gruyere cheese. It’s divine! I start this by making a roux with butter and flour. Then I stream in the milk. Cheese is up next! Add it with the pot over very low heat. I sprinkle in a little parmesan as well as a few delicious grates of fresh nutmeg.

Time to combine! The steamed cauliflower florets go into a baking dish. The cheese sauce is poured on top. Then comes the mustardy breadcrumbs.

Gosh I love this part. I tear apart a few pieces of sourdough bread, then toast them in a skillet with dijon and butter. Those go on top of the cauliflower as well as some extra cheese too!

Into the oven it goes. This takes around 30 minutes. It’s mouth-wateringly incredible and you’ll want to eat it with a spoon right out of the baking dish!

Not to mention, it goes with just about every main entree you can think of!

With a flavorful gingersnap crust, rich filling, and spiced whipped cream, this eggnog cheesecake makes for a very jolly holiday dessert.

Close up of a slice of eggnog cheesecake topped with whipped cream on a stoneware plate.

There are some recipes I make for this site that come together super fast. I test them once or twice and they work flawlessly.

Then there are other recipes that take a lot of work. And a lot of testing. Like, a lot of testing.

This eggnog cheesecake is one of those recipes. I started working on it a year ago, but couldn’t get it quite right, so I put it on hold until I could get eggnog again.

After a few more tests and tweaks, I finally got it just right. I wanted a cheesecake with a silky-smooth filling and subtle eggnog flavor, paired with a stronger-flavored eggnog whipped cream.

I was so excited when I finally nailed this recipe. It’s a delicious cheesecake, perfect for serving at your holiday party or Christmas dinner. You’re gonna love it.
