And it’s October! 6 months of our book club going strong! Here’s our October book pick…

We will be reading Anxious People by Fredrik Backman. I absolutely LOVE his books and am so excited to read this one along with you.

Here’s the scoop: Looking at real estate isn’t usually a life-or-death situation, but an apartment open house becomes just that when a failed bank robber bursts in and takes a group of strangers hostage. The captives include a recently retired couple who relentlessly hunt down fixer-uppers to avoid the painful truth that they can’t fix their own marriage. None of them is entirely who they appear to be. And all of them—the bank robber included—desperately crave some sort of rescue.

We will discuss the book in our secret facebook group the last week of October – date to come! Follow jessica’s book club on IG and facebook for details throughout the month, and to see what else I’m reading. xo

Woohoo! Time for our September book!

We will be reading One To Watch by Kate Stayman-London! I am so, so thrilled about this book – I’ve heard rave reviews!

Here’s the scoop: Bea Schumacher is a devastatingly stylish plus-size fashion blogger who has amazing friends, a devoted family, legions of Insta followers—and a massively broken heart. Like the rest of America, Bea indulges in her weekly obsession: the hit reality show Main Squeeze. The fantasy dates! The kiss-off rejections! The surprising amount of guys named Chad! But Bea is sick and tired of the lack of body diversity on the show. Since when is being a size zero a prerequisite for getting engaged on television?

Just when Bea has sworn off dating altogether, she gets an intriguing call: Main Squeeze wants her to be its next star, surrounded by men vying for her affections. Bea agrees, on one condition—under no circumstances will she actually fall in love. She’s in this to supercharge her career, subvert harmful beauty standards, inspire women across America, and get a free hot air balloon ride. That’s it.

I’m so excited for our August pick!

We will be reading The School of Essential Ingredients by Erica Bauermeister.

Many of you have recommended this book to me and I am SO excited to read it along with you. It sounds wonderful!

Here’s the scoop: Once a month on a Monday night, eight students gather in Lillian’s restaurant for a cooking class. Among them is Claire, a young woman coming to terms with her new identity as a mother; Tom, a lawyer whose life has been overturned by loss; Antonia, an Italian kitchen designer adapting to life in America; and Carl and Helen, a long-married couple whose union contains surprises the rest of the class would never suspect. The students have come to learn the art behind Lillian’s soulful dishes, but it soon becomes clear that each seeks a recipe for something beyond the kitchen. And soon they are transformed by the aromas, flavors, and textures of what they create….

I’m so excited to announce our July book club pick!

We will be reading Party of Two by Jasmine Guillory!

I am so excited as I absolutely looooove Jasmine’s other books.

Here’s the scoop: Dating is the last thing on Olivia Monroe’s mind when she moves to LA to start her own law firm. But when she meets a gorgeous man at a hotel bar and they spend the entire night flirting, she discovers too late that he is none other than hotshot junior senator Max Powell. Olivia has zero interest in dating a politician, but when a cake arrives at her office with the cutest message, she can’t resist—it is chocolate cake, after all. Olivia is surprised to find that Max is sweet, funny, and noble–not just some privileged white politician she assumed him to be. Because of Max’s high-profile job, they start seeing each other secretly, which leads to clandestine dates and silly disguises. But when they finally go public, the intense media scrutiny means people are now digging up her rocky past and criticizing her job, even her suitability as a trophy girlfriend. Olivia knows what she has with Max is something special, but is it strong enough to survive the heat of the spotlight?

We will discuss the book in our secret facebook group the last week of June – date to come! Follow jessica’s book club on IG and facebook for details throughout the month, and to see what else I’m reading. xo

Um hi! We’re finally starting a book club!

jessica's book clubAnd I couldn’t be more excited! It’s finally happening. A real, legit virtual book club.

An actual book club has been something you guys have requested probably since… 2010. Ever since I first started talking about my love of books, reading and writing here on the blog. I almost started one back then, but I didn’t know how we would manage it on the website. Now, with all of the social media options, everything is so much easier.

I originally planned on launching this at the end of May, when I do my annual summer reading list. But now just felt like the right time. We’re all at home. I’m reading more than usual to escape. I’m craving community and connection more than ever! I love talking with you guys about books and now we finally have a dedicated space for it.

First steps!

Go join the instagram book club right here. There is also a facebook book club page, as well as a secret group.

Our book for May is going to be The Happy Ever After Playlist by Abby Jimenez!

I absolutely LOVED this book (so much so that I tried to refrain from singing its praises too much in yesterday’s post!). It was such a good read right now in this tough time – it’s quick and light but still has substance, the characters are well developed and the story is wonderful. I’m super excited about it!

We will discuss the book on instagram and facebook at the end of the month – stay tuned for updates! And be sure to join the facebook group so we can discuss all the books we’re reading each month!
