Jalapeño popper dip

Dips really make everything better, and this jalapeño popper dip recipe is right on target. It’s similar to the Buffalo chicken dip we did a couple months back. This time, our easy jalapeno popper dip — a spicy, cheesy Tex-Mex mix — finds a home in the middle of freakin’ delicious stuffed crust pizza dough. It’s the perfect appetizer for the big game, your next party or even your family’s Taco Tuesday. Also, I’d bet no one would blink if you served this jalapeno popper dip recipe as a main course for dinner.

An overhead shot of the jalapeño popper dip as its pulled from the fire oven.

I was able to get the ingredients for this delicious dip thanks to Kroger’s new online delivery service. It’s super convenient because professional drivers deliver everything in refrigerated trucks, the day after you order it. That means more time to make this cheesy dip or one of my favorite chicken wing or taco recipes to round out your meal!

Why You’ll Love Jalapeño Popper Dip

Stuffed crust pizza with Spiceology’s Everything Bagel Blend meets a spicy, cheesy, bacon-y dip, and then the rest is easy appetizer history. It’s what everyone loves about jalapeño poppers, but in dip form, so it’s great to share and simple to prepare. You can make this recipe in an oven, pizza oven or directly on a hot grill.

Jalapeño Popper Dip Ingredients

  • Pizza Dough: Kroger makes things easy with premade refrigerated pizza dough, which we’ll stuff with sharp cheddar cheese and season with Everything Bagel Blend
  • Dip Mix: Our jalapeño popper dip comes together with shredded Monterey Jack cheese, crispy bacon bits, BBQ seasoning, diced red onions, diced fresh jalapeños, full fat cream cheese and sliced fresh jalapenos to garnish.
All the dip ingredients set out and ready to be mixed.

How to Quickly Soften Cream Cheese

Forgot to take the cream cheese out of the fridge in time? Because we’ve all been there. The easiest way to get softened cream cheese for a recipe like this jalapeño popper dip is to leave it at room temperature on the counter for 30 minutes to an hour. But, there are other ways to get it ready in a pinch. My favorite is to submerge the sealed cream cheese packet in a large bowl of warm water for about 10 minutes. You can also use the microwave, though it’s a bit riskier since you might melt the cheese. First, unwrap the cream cheese from its foil wrapper. Then, put it on a microwave-safe plate and microwave the block in 10-second bursts until you reach your desired softness.

How to Make Jalapeño Popper Dip

This great dip is going to be the star of the party. Grab your skillet, fire up your grill or oven and we’ll get cooking.

The Pizza Dough

First, preheat your grill or oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit for indirect cooking. Once you’ve done that, take your pizza dough and divide it into 3″x3″ segments. Then, add a cube of soft cheddar cheese to the dough and roll into a ball. Repeat this until you have 18-20 balls.

Preparing stuffed pizza crust and lining it around the edge of the cast iron skillet.

Then, grease your skillet and line the outside with the dough balls. Add your 2 packets of cream cheese to the middle of the skillet.

Placing cream cheese in the center of the cast iron skillet.

The Dip

Place your skillet in the smoker for 15 minutes, making sure to rotate it every 5 minutes for even cooking. After that, pull the skillet out of the smoker and combine cream cheese with 1/2 cup of shredded Monterey Jack cheese, 1.5 tablespoons of chopped bacon bits, 1.5 tablespoons of BBQ seasoning, 1 tablespoon of diced red onions and 1 tablespoon of diced jalapeno peppers.

Once you’ve mixed that cheesy base together thoroughly, top the cream cheese mixture with the remaining 1/2 cup of cheese, 1.5 tablespoons of chopped bacon bits, 1.5 tablespoons of BBQ seasoning, 1 tablespoon of diced red onions and 1 tablespoon of diced jalapeños.

Mixing together the jalapeño popper dip.

The Seasoning

Mix together 1 tablespoon of melted butter, 1 fresh egg and 1 tablespoon of water. This is your egg wash, which will help the pizza dough bake up golden brown. Brush the top of the dough balls with the egg wash, then season it all over with 1.5 tablespoons of Everything Bagel Blend.

Finishing the Jalapeño Popper Dip

Place the skillet back in the smoker or oven to cook for 15 more minutes at 400 degrees F. Make sure to rotate the skillet around every 5 minutes for even cooking. Once the dough is cooked through and golden brown, pull out the skillet and let this perfect dip cool for 5-10 minutes. Garnish the top of the dip with chopped chives and sliced jalapeños and enjoy!

The finalized and served jalapeño popper dip.

What to Serve with Jalapeño Popper Dip

Tortilla chips or pita chips are the perfect dipping implements (or diplements, as I like to call them) for this spicy dip. It’s a delicious appetizer for chicken wings or chicken legs, or even your favorite taco recipe. I also think this jalapeño popper dip plus my honey fire BBQ wings would make for an off-the-charts meal.

Leftovers and Reheating

For any leftover dip, place it in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-5 days. When you’re ready to eat, reheat on a medium-high heat grill or in a 350-degree oven, in a baking dish or the original skillet covered with aluminum foil, for about 10-15 minutes.

FAQs

What’s the best way to keep this dip from getting too spicy?

You can easily adjust the amount of jalapenos, depending on how you feel about spicy food. If you want just a little bit of heat, you can halve the amount of diced jalapeños inside the dip. An equally good option is to skip the sliced jalapeño peppers in the garnish.

Can I use different cheeses?

I’d stick with cream cheese for the base of the dip, since something like Greek yogurt might separate and curdle and ruin it. But, you could use sharp cheddar cheese instead of Monterey Jack inside the dip, and something like mozzarella or pepper Jack in the stuffed crust.

Over the years we’ve gotten very creative when it comes to mimicking the texture of seafood. To date we’ve made Vegan Calamari and Vegan Scallops from oyster mushrooms, Vegan Tuna from chickpeas, and Smoked Salmon from carrots.

Today we’re recreating the flaky texture of crab meat with chickpeas and hearts of palm…say what?! It may sound obscure, but we promise this trio of ingredients works so well to recreate crab cakes you won’t be missing the real thing!

chickpeas, panko breadcrumbs, bell peppers, heart of palm, green onions, garlic powder, celery, lemon juice, old bay seasoning, vegan mayo, salt, dijon mustard, parsley, nori, dill

Ingredients You’ll Need

  • Vegan mayonnaise: Adds richness and creaminess to the overall flavor.
  • Lemon juice: Adds acidity and helps to balance the richer flavors in the crab cakes.
  • Yellow mustard: Provides a tangy, slightly spice flavor that enhances the overall taste. Dijon mustard is a good substitute.
  • Chickpeas: Provides the perfect texture and flavor for authentic looking and tasting crab cakes.
  • Hearts of palm: Another ingredient that mimics the texture of crab. Look for this ingredient in the canned vegetable aisle or International foods section in grocery stores.
  • Fresh veggies: Fresh celery and red bell pepper adds a crisp freshness that balances the more rich and savory flavors.
  • Dulse flakes: A key ingredient that adds a briny, ocean-like flavor to vegan seafood!
  • Fresh herbs: Like the fresh celery and bell pepper, fresh parsley and fresh dill adds a bright pop of flavor and color.
  • Old Bay seasoning: Essential for its distinct savory, slightly spicy flavor that is perfect for seasoning vegan seafood. We also add garlic powder and black pepper to round out all the flavor.
  • Bread crumbs: Panko breadcrumbs are used to coat the crab cakes, creating a crispy, crunchy, golden brown exterior when pan-fried. If you are gluten-free, feel free to opt for gluten-free bread crumbs.

Equipment Needed

How to Make Vegan Crab Cakes

  1. Make the vegan crab meat. Add the chickpeas to a large bowl and mash them with a fork. Add the remainder of the ingredients, reserving 1/2 cup of the breadcrumb mixture for the next step, and mix until well combined.
  2. Form the crab cakes. Add about 1/2 cup of breadcrumbs onto a shallow plate. Place 2 tablespoons of the vegan crab cake mixture into your hands and roll to form a ball. Gently flatten to form a thick patty, about 1/3-1/2″ thick. Press each side of the crab cake in the breadcrumbs and set aside. Continue until all crab cakes are formed and coated in breadcrumbs.
  3. Pan fry the crab cakes. Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add 2 tablespoons of oil and warm through. Once hot, add in 3-4 crab cakes and pan fry for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until light golden brown and crispy. Transfer the cooked patties to a paper towel lined plate to absorb any excess oil.
  4. Cool and serve. Let the vegan crab cakes cool until easy enough to handle, then serve while warm or at room temperature with vegan tartar sauce, fresh parsley, green onions, and fresh lemon wedges. Enjoy!

Serving Suggestions

We serve these crab cakes most often as a delicious vegan appetizer with Vegan Tartar Sauce, or other dipping sauces like Vegan Aioli or Cilantro Dill Cream Sauce.

If you prefer to enjoy them as a main dish, turn them into vegan crab cake sliders or pair them with a simple green saladpan fried asparagus, and/or roasted vegetables.

Storage Instructions

Vegan crab cakes are best enjoyed fresh while they’re hot and crispy, but leftovers will keep for up to 5 days in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

Description

This vegan crab cake recipe is easy to make, bursting with flavor and has the perfect crab meat texture and consistency. Dollop with our homemade vegan tartar sauce and fresh dill and enjoy as a delicious vegan seafood appetizer!

Ingredients

  • 115 oz can chickpeas
  • 114 oz can heart of palm, drained
  • 1/2 red bell pepper, finely minced
  • 1/4 cup green onion, finely minced
  • 1 celery stalk, finely minced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, finely minced
  • 1 tablespoons fresh dill, finely minced
  • 1/2 sheet nori or 1 tablespoon dulse flakes
  • ½ teaspoon sea salt (+ more to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon old bay seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon dijon mustard
  • 2 tablespoons vegan mayo
  • 1 cup of panko bread crumbs, divided
  • Oil to fry

Serve with

Instructions

  1. To a large bowl, add in the chickpeas and mash with a potato masher or fork until a rough mixer is formed.
  2. Add all of the remaining ingredients but ½ cup of the breadcrumbs to the large bowl with the chickpeas and mix until uniform.
  3. Pour remaining 1/2 cup breadcrumbs onto a plate or shallow bowl.
  4. Scoop 3-4 tablespoons of mixture into your hands to form a ball, and then gently flatten it out to form a thick patty.
  5. Dip patties into breadcrumbs. Press each side of the patty in the bread crumbs and set it aside. Continue until you have formed and coated patties with all of the dough.
  6. Heat a large skillet over medium heat (about 2-3 minutes) with about 2 tablespoons of oil and line a large plate or pan with paper towels (to absorb the oil). You’ll know the oil and pan are ready when you add the crab cakes and they sizzle (you can test it out with a few breadcrumbs).
  7. Place about 3-4 patties on your pan, depending on the size. You want to be sure your pan is now overcrowded so you can flip the patties easily. Pan-fry the crab cakes for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until light golden brown. Try to flip them as minimally as possible (only once is ideal) to prevent them from breaking apart. Wipe the pan and add fresh oil when more patties are added.
  8. Transfer the cooked patties to the lined plate and cool until easy to handle.
  9. Cool and serve with a dollop of vegan tartar sauce and a sprinkle of fresh dill.

This is a healthier fruit dip recipe that your kids will love! If you’re trying to get your family to eat more fruit this easy recipe is a great way to do it. It’s made with Cool Whip and yogurt, so it’s less sweet than ones made with marshmallow fluff. Plus, you can customize the flavors to switch it up.

Why You’ll Love This Fruit Dip

I’m always looking for ways to get them (and me!) to eat more fruit and this easy yogurt fruit dip is one of my favorite secret weapons. Unlike other recipes that are made with cream cheese or pudding mix, this version has yogurt so it’s lighter and less sweet.

It takes minutes to make and is flavored with fresh orange juice and zest for a citrus twist. What I love about it is that I can switch up the flavors by using different kinds of yogurt and adding different extracts – it’s fun to experiment and come up with new flavor combinations.

This is the best fruit dip – it’s great as a snack or light dessert and always disappears fast. You’ll love this and it’ll get you and your family to eat more fresh fruit!

ingredients in fruit dip on counter with words on photo

Ingredients Needed

  • Cool Whip – keeps the dip light and fluffy without marshmallow cream. You can use any kind of cool whip.
  • Yogurt – You can use whatever kind of yogurt you like fat-free, sugar-free, plain yogurt, or Greek yogurt. You can use plain yogurt or try flavored one – I use vanilla.
  • Orange Zest and Juice – For some fresh flavor.

Flavoring Fruit Dip

There are tons of options for flavored yogurt, but I usually go with vanilla because it pairs really well with the fresh orange juice and orange zest that’s also in the dip. Here are other flavor ideas:

  • Add a touch of vanilla extract
  • Switch out the orange juice for fresh lime or lemon juice and lemon zest.
  • Try a different extract to add a different flavor – there are so many kinds to choose from. You can try almond or a little mint extract but I’ve also seen fruit extracts like strawberry, raspberry and even mango that would work well, too.
clear bowl of whipped topping yogurt and orange zest on counter.

How to make Fruit Dip with Yogurt

  • Place all ingredients in a large bowl. It’s easiest if the yogurt is room temperature.
  • Stir everything together – if needed you can use an electric mixer.
  • Serve the mixture with your favorite fruit!

Expert Tips

Be sure to taste as you’re making it – you can always add a little more sweetness, but it’s hard to take it out if you add too much. You can also sweeten your dip with a sugar substitute, honey, or maple syrup.

Serving Ideas

  • Sliced bananas, whole strawberries
  • Pineapple chunks or apple slices
  • Raspberries, blueberries, and blackberries
  • Sliced melon like cantaloupe or watermelon
  • Grapes or Orange segments
  • Or serve with Nilla wafers, graham crackers, pound cake slices, pretzels, or cookies

Notes

Inside: If you are looking for an amazing and unique appetizer to take your next holiday party, look no further – this creamy cranberry dip is easy to make and sure to be a hit.

cranberries in a baking dish with gouda, brie, and rosemary

We are at the time of year where holiday gatherings are starting and everyone is rushing to think of what foods to take to share with friends and family. It can be hard to think of something unique that people will like, but this festive dip that I am going to share today fits the bill.

When most people think of cranberries during the holidays, they think of fresh cranberry sauce. Even though it is a common food to share at Thanksgiving, a lot of times there is a lot of leftovers since it isn’t always the most popular dish. Today, I am going to share a recipe for another recipe that uses fresh cranberries, but that is combined with delicious brie and gouda cheeses which makes for a creamy dip that everyone will love.

What is Cranberry Dip?

Cranberry dip is one of many cranberry recipes that you can make for holiday parties. This particular easy dip recipe combines fresh ingredients, like tart cranberries, coconut sugar, cinnamon, orange juice and orange zest, with brie and gouda cheeses. It is then baked in the oven and served with crackers. This is a perfect appetizer, because it is easy to make and easy to share. People can scoop it up onto their plate and enjoy it with their favorite crackers or even just with a spoon.

A common variation is to use cream cheese if you prefer that over brie and gouda, but I find that these decadent cheeses make a huge difference and everyone seems to love it! If you have all the ingredients, you can even make it at the last minute, because it doesn’t take long at all to through together.

How do you make this Cranberry Dip?

To make this perfect holiday party appetizer, you will gather the following simple ingredients:

  • 1 bag of fresh cranberries (you can use frozen cranberries if that is what you have)
  • 4 Tbsp of coconut sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • Juice from one orange
  • 1/2 tbsp of orange zest
  • Brie cheese
  • Smoked Gouda, cut into cubes (optional)
  • Fresh rosemary

You will start by preheating the oven to 350 degrees fahrenheit. In a small bowl combine the coconut sugar and cinnamon and set aside.

Next, in a 9×13 inch baking dish combine cranberries, coconut sugar and cinnamon mixture, and the fresh orange juice and zest, and stir well.

Finally, add the round of brie cheese to the middle of the dish and add the cubes of smoked gouda and the rosemary. Place in the preheated oven and bake for 30 minutes.

Once cooked, remove from the oven, give it a quick stir, and serve with and assortment of crackers, tortilla chips, pretzel crisps, or pita chips.

If you don’t have brie cheese, you can replace it with a block of cream cheese and it will still have a similar creamy texture and taste.

This recipe is great right out of the oven, but you can also save any leftover dip for the next day. Just keep it in an airtight container, or in the same serving dish with plastic wrap over the top and it will be ready to continue enjoying later.

The delicious seasonal flavors of this dip make it a perfect option for family gatherings any time of year, and it is my new favorite way to use cranberries.

Everyone loves this pumpkin dip recipe that tastes just like pumpkin pie! All you need is 5 minutes to whip up this fall favorite. Every time we serve it, people rave!

Pumpkin Dip on a platter with pretzels, apples and cookies

Of all of the pumpkin-spiced recipes floating around this time of year, may we suggest this recipe as one of the quickest, easiest paths to the flavors of fall? This pumpkin dip recipe tastes just like pumpkin pie, and you can whip it up in just 5 minutes in a food processor or blender!

Scoop up a fluffy dollop with an apple slice and you’ll immediately want to devour the entire bowl. Our friends and family go crazy over this one, and it’s one we make for all the fall occasions: apple picking, Halloween parties, Thanksgiving, and more.

Ingredients in pumpkin pie dip

This pumpkin pie dip tastes like pumpkin pie filling: in fact, we almost like it even better! It’s pure and full-flavored, with just the right balance of cinnamon and pumpkin pie spices. We’ve made it often for friends and family, and everyone goes crazy for it. It’s ideal for a fall dinner post-apple picking or pumpkin patch visit, Halloween parties, and Thanksgiving gatherings. All you need are these six ingredients:

  • Cream cheese
  • Pumpkin puree
  • Powdered sugar
  • Cinnamon
  • Pumpkin pie spice

Tips for making pumpkin dip

This pumpkin dip recipe takes just a few minutes to whip up! All you need is a food processor, though you can also use other tools to get the job done. Here are a few tips for making this simple dip recipe:

  • Use a food processor or stand mixer. The best tool for the job is a large food processor. You can also try it in a stand mixer or with an electric hand mixer.
  • Soften the cream cheese first. You can let it sit at room temperature for 30 minutes to soften, but we often don’t have the time for this. Here’s a trick: simply microwave it for 5 seconds. Just don’t do it any longer because you don’t want the cream cheese to melt!
  • Blend and serve immediately. Some pumpkin dip recipes require refrigeration but why wait? Take one bite of this creamy, fluffy dip and you’ll want to devour it immediately.

Storing leftovers

This pumpkin dip dip recipe can be eaten immediately, or you can make it in advance and store it before eating. This recipe lasts 5 days refrigerated. It becomes more solid in texture when cold, so allow it to stand at room temperature for a few minutes before serving for best results.

Ways to serve pumpkin dip

What to serve with pumpkin pie dip? Our favorite is apple slices, but there are lots of other ways to serve it. The best options are fall-favorite fruits, pretzels and cookies. It’s perfect for any fall gathering as an appetizer, snack, or even dessert! It’s especially great for kids. Here are a few ideas for dipping:

  • Apple slices
  • Pear slices
  • Pretzels
  • Ginger cookies
  • Vanilla cookies
  • Graham crackers
